And so it begins...

A new year of study in the field of animation is soon to begin!

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm pretty damn eager to get back into the swing of things, even though summer holidays have seemingly gone by pretty fast I still feel that it has been too long since I was last sitting in a classroom (or failing to go to class in most cases as many of you know)

Anywho, I've been hella slack on updating this blog of mine.. it doesn't mean that I haven't been drawing n' such because I've been doing plenty of dawring I just never bother scanning anything. None the less today I have an update.. it's nothing special.. just a quick doodle I did here at work on the ole tablet of a gorilla type character about to embark on a journey of his own.

Female Faces

Due to my lack of being able to draw female faces I decided to do some quick sketches of them today. so here they are

and the posts keep on comin today.. I guess that'll happen when you don't really have much to do at work but conveniantly have your drawing tablet on hand. hua hua hua! Anywho these are some quick gestures of a ninja I have in the making.. I still need to give him a face and there is a chance I'll animate him since I did bring animation paper back home with me.

Elephants

these are some quick gestures that I did of elephants sadly from photo refrence due to a lack of elephants to draw back home in Newfoundland. None the less this was still fun and I'm still able to practice looking for large shapes / negative space.

Sit Boy Sit!

GOOD BOY!.. errr hell hound? who knows. I was doodling in my sketchbook today at work and decided the flavor of the day would be a wolf and this is how one of my sketches came out in the end. for whatever reason i didn't bother to throw in a 4th leg but what can ya do? there shall be more drawings of this badass son of a bitch in the very near future.

Final Painting

this is my final painting assignment done with water colors with two overlays. one being for the character and the other for the outlines of my backround. tim was quite pleased and I too am quite happy with how it all turned out; normaly there is always something i'd want to change in my paintings but i'm content for a first in my life and have definantly found a medium i'll be playing around with a lot over the summer and surely when my 2nd year of animation begins.

unfortunantly the colors really aren't coming out nearly as well on this scanned version so it looks a lot better in person.

here's a 10 i did in class today that mark thurman seemed to like so i figured i may as well post it on here. only negative thing he had to say about it was that it would have been nice if i had a midtone.

BR Bigsley hits the big screen

So ya, this is a character I came up with last night for good ole character design, I like him but as always I find the clean up kills the initial sketches that I had created. I really don't know if I will ever enjoy cleanup since it just seems to kill everything I do.

Pushing it?

well I did this sketch at work today. it started off sorta bland so while i was drawing it i remembered how people are always saying to push your poses to make it more interesting. so this is really my first attempt at pushing things. is it working?

i'm not exactly finished coloring it but i'd just like some input on the pose in general for the time being.

Evenin Mam

this is just a sketch i did last night of an old gun slinger.

anyway my new intention is to come up with some type of new character, or layout, maybe even animation every week (for three weeks in a row) with a theme in mind. after the 3rd week I will then choose one of my characters, layouts, or animtion and come up with a final version during the 4th week. Zombie love?

Just a sketch i did in the airport waiting to fly back here to St. John's for a so called spring break.. anywho I colored it this morning at work while waiting to wake up.. although I'm still not awake but meh.

Pink Panther zombie BG

This is the BG for my pink panther walk cycle and it fits his walk perfectly! When viewing this in after effects there is pleanty of layers on the movie.. about 9 or 10 layers at that to make damn sure it's nice n' eery. Once I have my cleaned up version of that damn panther finished I'll post the animation.

Hey hottie police officer

this would be a drawing I did just moments ago using pastels.
I didn't exactly do the greatest job in the world with the face but it was rather difficult to pull off small subtle details with such large sticks of pastel. So i ended up messing it up a bit :S anywho enjoy!

Paint meet Pastels

Well these are in class and out of class assignments that I've been working on. The landscape-esqu type one was the last assignment we worked on, and done gouache. There is a second painting to go along with this one but i'm going to redo it. I'm gonna do a bit more with the one shown here too.

Then we have a couple in class still life "paintings" per say that I did today. The time taken to do each one of these would have to be somewhere between 35-45 minutes? As per usual though I didn't really listen to the guidlines (those being our still life studies to be done using paint) and instead went with pastels mainly because I didn't feel like busting out my paints. Plus for the out of class still life assignment we have to do I feel like using pastels anyway; so it seemed like the perfect oppratunity to see if i was feeling them or not.

Sketchbook Dump

SO I'm about due to add something new up here that doesn't involve extra life drawings. so here's a few things in my sketchbook. mainly ideas for assignments we're doing in school with the odd drawing of a female here n' there to keep things interesting.


I was going to do a rhino for our latest character design assignment. I was feeling the side view but when I was trying to figure out how he'd look from the front nothing was really working for me. so I moved onto a bear.


Oh and somehow while drawing front views of my rhino concept the face of a female found its way onto my page along with a female body.


And now for my bear concept. I wanted to go with a semi realistic character but in the end I kept it simple.




Just some drawings of the different muscles found on the back before I headed off to extra life one evening.


Some drawings / different ways to approach head rotations of a couple characters I was going to do for our latest animation assignment. In the end I scraped both Hellboy and the Mad Hatter umongst many many many other characters.





Just a simple concept for the island for my most recent storyboard assignment titles "Ship Wrecked" no this ingenious title didn't come from my noggin, but from the outline we have to follow for the assignment. (again a female has found her way into my sketchbook.. )
